Mamgongo Land und Leute

Mwamgongo Das kleine im Norden des Kigoma Gebiets gelegenes Dorf Mwangongo schläft in einem von der  Zivilisation weit entfernten weiten Tal, drei Bootsstunden entfernt nördlich von Kigoma. Das Dorf wird durch Berge, die sich im blauen Wasser des Tanganyikasees spiegeln, umgeben.  Es gibt keine Autos und keine Straßen, das Dorf kann nur mit dem Boot oder zu Fuß erreicht werden. Es gibt auch keinen Strom im Dorf. Nur wenige können  sich einen Generator leisten. Kerosinlampen geben dem Dorf abends eine idyllische Atmosphäre. Mwamgongo hat 8.000 Einwohner, eine Grundschule für 1.000 Kinder und ein Krankenhaus. Das Leben spielt sich am Seeufer und am Rande des Sportplatzes der Schule ab. An diesen Plätzen trifft man sich, hier ist immer etwas los. Hier wird produziert, gehandelt und vor allem palavert. Sonntags werden am Seeufer die Boote repariert und alle sehen zu. Einmal am Tag kommt das Passenger Boot aus Kigoma. Wieder gibt es einen großen Menschenauflauf. Leute und Material  werden empfangen.

Mwamgongo The Small village, situated in the north of the Kigoma,’Mwangongo’ sleeps in a wide valley far away from the civilisation, three boat hours journey distance to the north of Kigoma. The village is surrounded by mountains which join to the blue water of the Tanganyikasees. There are no cars and no streets, the village can be reached only by the boat or on foot. There is also no stream in the village. Only few villagers can afford a generator. Kerosene lamps give an idyllic atmosphere in the village at night. Mwamgongo has 8,000 inhabitants, an elementary school for 1,000 children and a hospital. Village life happens on the sea shore and on the edge of the sports field of the school, where there is always something going on. One produces trades and above all natters here. On Sundays, boats are repaired on the sea shore and everybody watches. Once a day, the passenger boat arrives from Kigoma, which produces a big crowd of people, goods and materials.
